Treasure and Pearl

Treasure and Pearl

"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it." Matt. 13:44-46.

These two short parables teach us something about the kingdom of heaven: its great worth! This treasure, the kingdom of heaven, the place where God's people have citizenship, the place where God's people dwell, the body of Christ, the church that belongs to Christ, the embodiment of the message of salvation. There is nothing of more importance in this world than learning about how to get to the next one and be with God forever. What a treasure that is!

The great value of this kingdom, the message about how to get into it, the gospel, is described for us as a treasure. I am not sure what that treasure was that the man discovered, the description as "treasure" seems adequate to bring to mind great wealth and abundance. The man's reaction was to do whatever it took to get it. In giving everything to purchase the field, he demonstrated his great desire to attain it.

The same is true when we consider the pearl of great price. The merchant was obviously in the business of seeking valuable pearls and upon finding one of infinite value, a treasure in itself, he did what was necessary to obtain. It cost him all that he had.

Yes indeed, it is that important! The consequences of our desire for and our commitment to this treasure, the Gospel, are eternal!

God bless and have a great day!!

Eternity! It’s Forever!!

Eternity is forever

Into Eternity

Into Eternity

Life is short and uncertain. Things that endure are rare.

“…for ‘All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.’ And this word is the good news that was preached to you.” 1 Pt. 1:24-25

Our lives are short in comparison to eternity. We have no guarantees for tomorrow. Our lives can literally end at any time. Car accidents, weather events, deadly illnesses and any number of other things can end our lives suddenly.

As Peter reminds us, there are many things around us that demonstrate the brevity of our lives. The thing is, we have to make the most of the time that we have (Eph. 5:15-16). As we do this, we often turn to setting up a legacy of some sort, something to leave for the generations that follow us.

Eternity is a mind-boggling concept. How do we do something that will endure for eternity? The short answer is that we can never do anything that will last forever. Everything we do will eventually fade from memory.

So what do we do?

So then, if we cannot make something that will last forever, is there something that we can be a part of that will last for eternity? Absolutely!

If we are looking to be a part of something that will endure into eternity, the Word of Lord abides forever. Count on it! Obey it! Enjoy the inheritance that will last into eternity! God keeps His promises!!

God bless and have a great day!!

Be Strong!

Be strong in the Lord!

Good Morning! Be strong!!

We are half way through the week, Bible study is tonight, we have another day of God's blessings!

"Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love." 1 Cor. 16:13-14.

Sometimes we encounter things and people that can discourage us. Be strong, God loves you and has promised to reward us for doing the right thing in spite of those around us.

Sometimes we are corrected and don't like it much. Be strong. Yes, sometimes our shortcomings are pointed out and it is uncomfortable, but we need to consider information in the light of God's Word.

But through it all, we take our stand on the Word, it is the truth that will make us free (Jn. 8:32). Be strong. Spend enough time with it to know what it says and how it applies to us. Be strong in the knowledge of His Word.

Act like grown-ups

We also need to take responsibility for our action, or act like grown-ups. Be strong. Too many of us always look for someone else to blame. We don't like to admit our faults, but we must in order to be forgiven (1 Jn. 1:9)

And finally, make sure your approach to everything is immersed in the love that God demonstrates toward us and we share with others.

Be strong! Hang in there!

God bless and have a great day!!
